Rugby Sevens

Competition events include Men’s and Women’s divisions.

Phase 1: Teams will be divided into Groups A and B while the rankings of each group will be determined by a single round-robin competition.

Phase 2: There will be a knockout competition. Winning teams will vie for the 1st to 4th positions, while others compete for the 5th to 8th positions. The 5th teams in the first phase from both Groups A and B will contend for the 9th and 10th positions.

Rules:

The game is played by 7 players on each side. Players can run forward with the ball, kick the ball forward or pass it backwards or sideways. If an offside player receives the ball or takes part in the play, his team is penalised. If a player of either team holds or kicks the ball out of bounds, he or she loses possession of the ball and the other team may receive a throw-in. At the end of regulation time, the team with more points wins.

A try worths 5 points is scored when players advance the ball and ground it on the goal-line of the opponents’ in-goal area. After scoring a try, the team may attempt a conversion kick to earn 2 additional points by kicking the ball over the crossbar and between the goalposts. Also, there is a penalty try which is an automatic 7 points, which will only be applied when a player illegally prevented a try scoring opportunity.

A ball carrier may also attempt a drop goal worths 3 points by dropping the ball onto the ground and kicking it on the half-volley. When awarded a penalty after an infringement by the opposition, a team may choose to kick for goal to score 3 points if successful.

If the match is tied, there will be a 5-minute sudden-death overtime. The first team to score any points will be the winner, and the match will end immediately.
