Para Table Tennis (TT11)

Para Table Tennis (TT11)

All events start with a round-robin tournament, and then progress to single-elimination rounds after qualification.

Table tennis players are mainly divided into the following three categories with a total of 11 classes:

Wheelchair category: classes TT1-TT5 (class TT1 for the most severely disabled)

Standing category: classes TT6-TT10 (class TT6 for the most severely disabled)

Intellectual disability category: class TT11

Rules:

A game is won by the first player to score 11 points. If both players score 10 points, the first to gain a lead of 2 points wins. A match consists of an odd number of games.

Para table tennis mainly follows the rules of the International Table Tennis Federation, but slight modifications are made to facilitate wheelchair players. For example:

a) In singles events, when serving the ball, if the ball bounces off either sideline of the receiver’s court, a re-serve is required.

b) Before striking the ball, players cannot touch the table or use it as a support. After striking the ball, while the ball is in play, players can use the table surface as a support to regain balance.
